braid has little or no stretch , gives great bite detection and is fantastic for keeping in touch with the bait. Downsides are its more expensive than mono can wear rod eyes faster than mono and due to the low stretch can strain a reels internals. Mono is cheaper and has more give in it . Its fine for shore work but for spinning where bite detection is vital braid wins as its no stretch .

tangles in braid can be next to impossible to get out, but its also much thinner than mono so cuts through the wind\tide better leaving a much smaller bow in your line

i only started using braid last year and prefer it over mono any day of the week, esp for any distance work as yer man above says, great bite detection

i have only just changed over to braid for shore fishing and i think i will be going back to mono.
Now it is mighty for seeing bites i will say that. but for myself i find it hard to grip the lead in the sand when fishing from the beach but that could be to do with the rod tip not being soft enough.
but as the lads have said for lure fishing i think its the job 8)

dont limit yourself to one line! braid is great for alot of fishing as is mono ,both have their uses in lure and bait fishing ,most fixed spool reels have a spare spool so keep one spool of each at the ready

braid will also cut on the rocks alot faster than mono so make sure u have a rubbing leader of flurocarbon to youre lure i usually use around a 5ft leader but 3ft is fine depending on youre preference.
