Use a t-bar disgorger, there easily made, but unless ur targeting them u wont get too many,if u do get one have fun jumping in the deep end its a case of sh1t or get off the pot with ur first conger,no one is ever prepared :D

As said get yourself a forceps or ideally a t bar for un hooking . Both are inexpensive and its good practice to carry for any type of fishing as some species are notorious for being deep hooked. A wet towel is handy just to grip them also

a nice little tutorial how to do it properly can be found here: http://www.britishcongerclub.org.uk/tbarthatconger.htm
hope that helps.

If you're lucky enough to catch a big one, a towel over the eyes will calm him down before you start your surgery

A towel full stop is necessary as I found out the hard way. Pulled a little 7lber in down in Kerry last year and the thing slimed me bad. Left me looking like a painters radio... T-Bar for the hook and watch their teeth. Even the small fellas can cut ya bad as I also found out last year. Towel over the eyes is a good idea. Ive also read if ya slap their tail it stuns them but thats a bit cruel. Great fun they are. Best of luck.

I'd also recommend circle hooks- 8/0 ..... In my experience , if you keep a hiold of the rod and hook em as soon as possible, it gets them in the top lip, easy to remove then by just holdin hook with forceps or pliers and roll them off it..

I thought I was prepared as well but when I landed a 7lb one I spent awhile wondering what the hell I would do next, you will be surprised at how strong they are,a T-Bar would be the best thing to unhook them,if you have not got a T-Bar you can use this http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bull ... t=wall+tie I push it in through the gill and pull the hook and wire trace out the gill,it keeps the fingers away from its mouth as well

If you don't have a towel and if your brave enough get the eel by the gills located just infront of the pet fins and use a t bar or a very strong set of foreceps this the way I unhook all of my congers

I love conger fishing, def give it a go but be prepared, get yourself a T bar. A high pressure weather system seems to get them feeding, they are teritorial so if you get bothered by small ones find a new mark to try for a bigger one :!: If you do get a good one enjoy the fight and when you do land it you will need a towel but not just to cover its head  and remember its perfectly acceptible to scream like a girl in the dead of night as you unhook it
It's all about the fishing

If the hook doesnt seem to be coming out, DONT try get it out with your fingers lol the last one i caught locked onto my finger, luckey he was only a small one id say a big conger could snap off a finger tip if your not careful cause they tend to spin around in a circle so dont leave him lying on your trace either hell make a mess of it. serious buzz when you get a nice one do !! mack head on a big 6 or7/0 hook a foot or 2 above a lead and away you go
