Conger are an all year round fish. They live in rocky locations, caves, rough ground, marinas, they dont leave so they can be targeted all year round.
The finest gift you can give a fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

:?: :?: are you sure man. all the refrence books i have on them say they live to up to 50 years and only naturally die after heading out half way round the world to deep waters near to madeira to breed, which sadly they only do once in their lifetime

Congers usually after the first big frost of the winter go into a deep sleep after a feeding frenzy in the shallow marks altho its been quite mild this winter and I'm still catching them...in the deeper marks you will get them all year round but change your baits from mackeral to either pout, coalies, rockling or pollock at this time of year as that is there main diet at this time altho Mac will still catch I find these b better in the winter early spring.

just a word of advise if ye are using live bait id say try stick to quite small ones or else use 2 hooks but that can just get messy then. I had a whiting bout 5/6 inches long on the other night and got a bite but it didnt devolep but when i reeled it in it was only the head left on the hook ! didn't get a tap on the conger rod for the rest of the evening

I think the kid means the action dies off during spells of very cold weather
