The spigot has a slight taper which will wear over the years, the extra lenght is to allow for this and keep the joint tight, the gap will close a bit over time

Lol, at least you had the sense to ask, i got the same rod for my birthday in july from my parents and i drove from newry to belfast back to the shop only to be very red faced when they explained the same answers that the lads have given you.
Good things come to those who bait.

did consider doing that only that the shop was closed today. thought it better to be red faced anonomously than in person  no better place than here to ask the question.

I had the same problem when I got my 13' penn powerstix, over 2 years I fished with it once every 10 days :D on average and now with all the wear I have another problem :x , the sections push too tightly together as the tapered spigott on each section has worn thin and sometimes jams in making it a 2 man job to get seperated, If I dont push the sections tight together they can come loose on casting and I'm scared of them coming apart. any advice on that problem out there :?:
It's a long time till next christmas, before anyone suggest a new rod
It's all about the fishing
