to my the best of my knowledge i think the 515 jus has a smaller spool thats all, not sure about gears and all that but i would assume that they would be constructed in the same manner jus maybe on a bit smaller scale for the 515 regarding in spool capacity. some one else here would probably give u some better advice as i am fairly new to the multi game have a 525 meself super reel....................

515 smaller spool so more suitable for lighter lines due to spool capacity being less 525 more of an all rounder as it will handle larger diameter lines for the rough stuff

I've just rooted out my 515 box and to be honest it has a decent line capacity on par with any of the abus.According to the manuafacturers it takes 247m of .36mm,210m of .38mm,146m of .46mm.It weighs 14.4 ozs.Id imagine 525 would be very similar mechanism wise just a bit more line capacity and a little heavier. The 6.0:1 ratio is great but jury still out for me regarding its ability as a distance casting reel.I reckon the older 525's just edge it on the smoothness front and casting abilities. Can't comment on newer 525.
Nice reels all the same and if your looking for fast retrieve and robustness then all the penn 5series family are worth a look.

Got the 515 myself, it's got the narrower spool than the 525, However, I would be wary of using very light lines on it, I've found when using light night crystal 14lb (.31mm), the line can catch between the spool and the body of the reel when there's a bit of play on the spool, I'd tend to use 20lb (.43mm) on it because of this.
