Re: rods on the roofrack
Would be inclined to keep them inside and out of sight. If you soundproof/secure your van, it would seem to be defeating the purpose by leaving the best of your gear outside of it. Just an opinion!

Re: rods on the roofrack
You can get a padded rod holder that fits onto the front and rear roof rack bars and there's a locking bar that clips onto the top to secure the rod's . It looks the part and is secure. I myself wouldn't use it as I'd be paranoid about damage or theft . Maybe for holiday use but that would be It

Re: rods on the roofrack
If I have a few lads travelling with me in the car I will put the rods, in their bags and also in a decent rodholder onto the roof rack. Make sure the the flat (hard) side of the pag is facing forward. I secure with a few bungees. Make sure the bungees kris cross (like an X, use 2 bungees if needed) around the roof bar. I have never had any problems travelling this way, even with motorway driving. Make sure the rod bags are tied up nicely and use a small bungee here to stop them flapping in the wind. This is a sure way to rip the bag.
