Evnen Gents,
Im off to kinsale on Saturday from Navan, planning on bringen home a few fish but will have a problem keeping them fresh, does anyone know anywhere down there i can contact for chipped ice or even have any idea how to make some myself with out a chipping machine, i have polystyrene boxes that sould keep it cool enough that it doesnt defrost on me if i have to bring it. Thanks

cheers Preston, i find the cubes you get in the bags defrost quicker then chipped ice, travelled back from kinsale last year using cubes of ice and when i opened the box at home it had all defrosted.Preston wrote:o donovan off licences do bags of ice for three or four euro. There a good size too.

I know it’s a bit late now but it still might work. Get yourself two or three 2 litre bottles of still water and freeze them down now.
They might be frozen solid enough to get you out of a spot.
I would always have 2 or 3 bottles in the bait freezer for travelling away. They could often be in there for months.
The nice thing about using still water is when it starts to thaw you can always drink it. Great on the way home after a long weekend and a feed of drink
I fished the masters in Sligo this year and when I took the polystyrene bait boxes out of the jeep on Monday there was plenty of ice still in the bottles and the bait was in great condition

Re: Chipped ice!
i had a weeks holiday in dingle this year and a comp the day after i got home. i dug my maddies and lug down there and popped them into the cool box with a few 2 litre and 7/8 500ml bottles of frozen water. got home to find the maddies were frozen solid and half the lug were too.donal domeney wrote:I know it’s a bit late now but it still might work. it does work. i had the cool box cold to begin with and bottles left in it over night so if it can freeze bait in 4 hours, it should keep fillets cold enough to get you home anywhere in the country
