Braid on a multiplier

Just wondering what anyone thinks about the use of braid on a multiplier. i have always used mono on the multi and think its fine no problems at all. Just if anyone has changed from mono to braid and if they find it better i would be intrested to know what you found better or worse

I've been using it for years (30lb) and never had any problems with it.
It's ideal for our surf beaches and the weed.
Also I never had a problem in getting distance even after hauling in a couple of pounds of weed.

Have been using some on my 525 and getting on great. Mind you the spool is only half filled and Im not going for any major distances yet. Have a new spool ready to load up so hopefully its just as smooth. Youll need a thumby on the finger guiding the line onto the spool as I sliced myself the first time i used it. Just cut a finger off a rubber glove and youre good to go.

thanks lads... do you use shockleader with it or not my fishing i dont use shockleader that often. what Donal has said above is 30lb the norm and can you recomend a brand due to the price it would be handy to know which ones are good and bad

yeh mate i would always use a mono shock leader when using braid. tried using braid straight through but had trouble with knot slips at the lead link. im using the cheap braid from china off fleabay. have been using it on my fixed spools for well over a year and havnt had any issues yet.

Power pro braid I have been using it for about 10 years great stuff but not the cheapest mind you. Shop around on the internet.

Cheapest power pro I have found is from this guy

He also sells on ebay, quite often he has power pro with damaged packaging very cheap.

Quick question, if using braid on a multiplier, would you bulk out the spool with a mono backing?

Definitely No! From a casting perspective you're better off have the spool under filled rather than too much line weight giving you all sorts of problems. I always fill up about 1/2 to 2/3 of the spool, much easier to control and no nasty side effects IMHO. But finger protection is absolutely essential if you don't want to end up in the next hospital queuing for a tetanus shot

ha you might not have any problems with it but getting pegged beside you on a beach with a run of tide is not pleasant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would say yes, but I don't use it that much from the Shore. I would load a 150 yard spool. I would put mono backing on to get the height right on the spool. You will need a small bit of Mono anyway to stop the Braid slipping around the spool. As Martin mentioned, underfill the spool for sure. If you get any line lift at all you could be in for a tough time with Braid.

Well lads i tryed the braid had no problems with only for my thumb it was in bits it dont half cut you up

but over all i was happy out with it no fish tho

to be honest i didnt really try to give it too much power on the first outing but next time maybe over the weekend i will..thanks again lads
