whith best reel for 12' beach rod?

#1 Post by grady »

hi,lads, just have got brand new 12' anyfish anywhere six&bait 6oz fixed spool rod, now looking for advice for reel which fits best weather multi or fixed spool to get best results on casting distance, what diameter of line is best
i wonder it may a bit to short to generate very long cast, but it should be handy for general use
any opinions are welcome
thanks

I have a penn surf 7000 sized real with 17 lb line paired to my 12 ft rod and get great distance and your rod would be a better class altogether . If you load the spool to just below the rim on any of the of the surf reels and use a lead to match the rating you should get good distance . Clipped rigs will streamline things and then its down to your casting ability .

I'd also have no reservations about recommending any of the Shimano surf casting reels and the penn reels also take some beating . Best of luck with the rod

Shimano Biomaster 8000. Superb reel for beachcasting. Bought it in Anglers World, Navan for €140.00.

Hi grady,

I would reccomend getting as big a spool as you can. This helps greatly with casting distance. It all depends on your budget but these would be some of the reels worth looking at:

http://www.gerrysfishing.com/fixed-spoo ... 0-3770.php

http://www.gerrysfishing.com/longcast-r ... 3-7889.php

https://www.veals.co.uk/acatalog/grauve ... -1233.html

https://www.veals.co.uk/acatalog/grauve ... -1851.html

https://www.veals.co.uk/acatalog/grauve ... 0-306.html

If you fill any of the above reels with line ranging in diameter from .32 - .35mm teamed with a decent 60lb shockleader and 6 oz lead you should have a good chance of attaining the distances you require.

If distance is'nt so important then spool size is'nt as important.

hope this helps,

Sean.
