Beachcaster advise wanted !

I'm new to the beach fishing so I would appreciate if someone could advise me on the decent beachcaster rod. My budget is 200 euro.

i`m looking around for a beachcaster but want to know what you look for ?

I mean whats the difference in a 12 footer or a 15 footer (apart from the 3 foot ) is it more difficult to handle? harder to feel the bites? or is it more for keeping the line above the surf?

I`d rather have a 3 section as it will fit in the car easier but is this a weeker rod?

Hi Andrew, welcome to the world of Beachcasting ...
Everybody has their own take on what suits best ... so be prepared you'll probably open a can of worms here
But most have a 13' rod they are great for general casting and short to mid surf, and a 13' rod is easier to handle making casting more controlable, I have a 13' Shakespear contender (unbreakable!!) and 15'9" powerstixs.. I find with the 15er I am more gentle with it as I dont have to put a lot of power into it to get my castsout, but I also reduce the weights down to a 4oz or there abouts and I get better distance, With the 13'er I let loose but bear in mind the area your fishing, If you need to powercast overhead thumps 13' is better but If you need good distances 15ers yes also the ground you fish on matters, I have seen it too many times lads breaking rods and all had various reasons, fault with in the rod itself, lads reefing the *&*& out of them when snagged, lads putting to heavy of a weight on(above the casting ability of the rod

As for makes of rods around your budget...
I take it that €200 is for the rod and you have a reel


Ian Golds
Greys (i think theres one or two in that price range)
Penn Powerstixs (they do them for fixed and multis)


I sure the lads will inform you of others like the Diawa range

Oh Another great tip before you buy any rods or tackle is have a look at some of the Sea Angler mags, There various ones from Irish Angler to Total Sea Angler, most do great reviews of rods and gear well worth the read

Thank you for the info. I'm planing to spend up to 200 euros on the rod only. I have Shimano AERO TECHNIUM 10000 XSB reel, it should be ok for the start. I think I'll go with the 13 feet rod because I don't want any accidents to happen, on the other hand, I'm from Russia and won't have any problem to hide few body's on the beach

Why waste bodies ?!?!? Use them as Ground bait
I use the Shimanppo Navi and find Shimano are great fixed spool reel, just make sure you clean them and take care of them (clean, gently oil, etc)
On the Navi series I have they made a plastic stop ring which need a little sewing machine grease (white based grease) keeps it in tip top condition....

But before you buy, wait and see what the others have to say also put a post in casting as there are some serious casters there, for €200 you want the best the rod can give you, and for me the most important is comfort, My old shakespear contender feels and acts like a lump of steel very heavy, and Im looking forward to treating myself next year but at the same time I just cant bring myself to retiring that rod...every year I say the same thing
