Diawa slosh 20/30 or Penn 515/525

I have been fishing for a number of years now and would like to give using a multiplier a go. What I am looking for is a reliable,cost effective reel that will add more distance to my cast, Im stuck between the penn mag 2's and the diawa slosh reels. Anybody out there with any of the above reels,I would be grateful if you would let me know what your opinions and preference are.

I asked the same question a while back big bass and was advised that both are fantastic reels. I got the 525 and i cant fault it. The lad in belfast angling were i bought it recommended loading it with 20lb line as it will slow it down a bit and will be better for the rough ground fishing. Good luck with whatever choice ye make anyway.

have the sl20 & the 515mag2,if you are just starting to use m/plyers I would recommend getting the 515 as it is alot easier to control as it comes c/w two types of braking

I have the SL20 and find that i can cast a better distance with a fixed spool big bass, Its not really the best multi in the world for distance but it is a great piece of kit, i only got my mine last season and got a birds nest the first few times i used it, this season im getting the hang of it and its because i changed the line down to a line with a diameter of .35mm, i had a few heavier lines on it, anything over that i feel its not as good (just my opinion). The SL30 i think is for heavier fishing if theres lots of weed around or your fishing conger etc., i dont know anything about the penns big bass only that anyone who has one absoulutely swears by them. I have two sl20s, two sl30s and two 525s but I do find big differences in their suitability. I would use the 525s for clean to medium rough shore work (15lb main/60lb shock) and the sl30s for heavier work (30lb straight) as they're a little bit chunkier. The sl20s however I find aren't as good a casting reel as they're not as balanced on the coasters as the others but they do make cracking boat reels. If your starting out I'd go with the 525s or the sl30s if your looking at rougher ground but its down to personal choice really. Hope this helps

As slackliner says if you want a casting reel out and out stick with the penns, but if you want one for real rough stuff and heavier lines the Slosh would be the better option. I have the old 525s and have used the mag2 and find them faultless but I use a sealine sha for heavy line stuff

All excellent reels and all have their pro's and cons however IMO the 525 is the best all round shore reel ever made. Once you set it up correctly you will have years of trouble free fishing.

Do remember though that just switching to a multi will not automatically give you more distance. That comes with effort and practice, there is no quick fix to more distance. Learn to cast properly and you'll get the extra yards, this goes for either multi or fixed spool.

hey man im fairly new to the multi scene myself, got a 525 at the start of the summer this year and as all the other posters have said its a superb reel! i would never use a fixy again after getting the hang of it!!! the lucky thing i had on my side was i had just bought it and we had a club casting day (westcork and district sac) with the lads from sports cast, i hadent even given it a test run before this and when we had the casting day the boys were sound out, they showed me the basics casting from the ground, my 1st cast with it i was only hittin 50meters (bit embarrassing ha ha) but after going thru it with the boys i actualy DOUBLED my distance in a few hours!!! and now a few months on and im penddeluming!!!!!!

so what i would recommend is to get a few lessons from some1 whos experienced usin them it really helped me man BIG-TIME!!!!!!!

Also i fish the 525 with a greys-flex-s 13` and cant fault the combo, suits me grand i love it, some people could argue that but im happy with what ive got!!!!! (unless santy brings me a zzippy )
