Could also try using carrots as you can pick up a bag in Aldi for 79c. I'd be more inclined to use baits that the fish I'm after naturally feeds on though.

seems so.

I am sure they will work fine especially if hooked to allow some movment, although I guess the probably wouldn't live too long in salt water.

A bait doesn't have to be something the local fish feed on naturally - rag is an excellent bait for wrasse but how often do wrasse find rag worms in their naturally environment?

And what about coarse anglers using sweet corn as bait? Bet all the other anglers on the bank were laughing their socks off at the first guy to use sweet corn.

Maybe carrots are not such a bad idea, stick a line through the middle and a triple on the end, who knows it might be then next hot bass lure!!!

Have seen them work very well for dabs in estuary backwaters, especially the striped variety that let off this horrible smelly stuff when you hook them, dendrobena I think they are called.

At least you seen the funny side to my reply!

I remember a post here about two years ago from lads catching whiting on KFC. So I'm sure other stuff works as bait now and again. However I wouldn't go suggesting to people wanting to learn about fishing using anything other then tried and tasted baits. It would be a wasted journey for someone to head off fishing with a bag of earth worms 9 times out of 10.

AS for catching trout on them, some fisheries do not allow worms any more (open to correction!) because they deep swallow the hooks. So if you are trout fishing it might be worth checking out.
