mobility issue

#1 Post by broady »

i am having my plaster cast removed this week after 8 weeks due to a ruptured achilles tendon and need some advice on a good spot to fish with flat sound ground in the waterford east cork area, i will probably not be able to fish beach or rock marks for another 3 or 4 months.
desperate to get fishing again so any help would be greatly appreciated.

green park corner opposite the walter raleigh hotel in youghal offers a good mix of decent size fish. you can fish from the back of the car very handy. bring some fresh crab.

Advice, dont rush it, I'm seven months in with the physios now and fished all the way through. Even put a binbag over the plaster so I could fish the Shannon. The problem is you forget you injury when something exciting happens and just stand on it without thinking. I'm sure my recovery would have been quicker if I hadn't spent so much time on the beaches.

baitdigger, thanks for the advice, i will take it slowly as i certainly don't want to re-injure it and end up in plaster again, but the draw of the sea is hard to resist !

The other thing I would say is just fish one rod. You don't realise how much extra movement is required with two rods until you cant move. Casting sitting down takes a bit of getting to grips with. Snags and hard striking are to be avoided because it's hard to see the funny side when you have just rolled off the back of your seat box when the line gives way. Don't try going on your own either simple things are impossible, even landing fish. And when the time comes ask you surgeon if it is ok to drive as your insurance wont cover you without his consent.
