Specimen bass

#1 Post by tex »

I grabbed a copy of sea angler issue 471 and was reading an article which just saddened me,I had to read it twice before it sank in,it was going back to the previous issue where an "angler" caught and killed 5 specimen bass in one session,I'm by no means an expert on the species in question but I know a little about their background and I feel if everyone adopted this strategy towards them we would be in real trouble in no time, just wondering if anyone caught the previous issue and can clarify??is there no measures in the uk to try to help the species?I'd just like to know if I missed anything as I could not find issue 470 anywhere local to me,cheers

really depends on where he caught them doesn't it? if it was somewhere like the Mediterranean where they grow quiet quickly it would not be so bad?

Context dude! we need context! :D

Some people Irish and english bass don't mix, either way you look at it it's 100 years wiped out in a single hit just for feed

Hi lads, if you go to sea angler issue 470 and go to page 39 you will find the story there. The head line is "PLYMOUTH ANGLER LANDS FOUR DOUBLE FIGURE BASS IN ONE SESSION", and loses a 17-pounder :D and its the mailbox section in issue 471 that the readers have vented there anger about this. Unfortunately, he hasn't broken any rules as there is only a size limit in the uk but not any bag limits  , The fish pictured probably have a combined age of about 100 years between them. I could probably copy this page from the magazine and put a link to it, but i dont know if there would be a copyright problem with this, so thats one for the mods to decide or try and get a copy of issue 470 of someone. Cheers..
Good things come to those who bait.

mr hugh stick my nose in and help, offall munchin, puppy eating Fearnley-Whittingstall was out fishing with two other lads on the telly and they where delighted to go home with fourty odd bass between them   all over their legal size (he seemed a bit put back at having to throw perfectly edible fish back  )still he wasnt too worried about how many he took ,unfortunatley like all fish if every one cleans up then the speices is cleaned out :| even if they have big stocks of bass non management of them is crazey

I read about this a month or so back, the story is absolutely sickening. The angler caught and killed 5 doubles, and bizarrely swapped one of the fish for a bag? Article online here:
http://www.thisisdevon.co.uk/s-time-ban ... story.html

The UK angling media seem to have little or no concern with promoting the protection of this wonderful species :(
