Snorkeling to scope out a mark...

Anyone ever done it? I haven't been out snorkeling in years and I'm thinking about it this weekends to check out the areas around marks I usually fish. Hopefully I'll find some good new spots.

i was swimming about 6 weeks ago in a nice little rocky bay & had me snorkelimg gear with me so said id have a look around & seen some fine wrasse,mullet & a fine bass about 6lb,came back the next evening to give it a bash but no such luck.definatley a way of locating some fish do.

I asked a local dive group out in skerries what the lay of the land was like and they were very informative, mostly crabs came a reply When I was in Spain I snorkeled a lot during the day and went fishing during the night great for sussing out the bed and seeing were possible gullies are and watch how the smaller fish run through them

i had so planned to do this this year but it all fumbled.sure the fish could be there one day and gone the next but i would defo say it is a good idea but be very careful doing this and dont do it alone

No but often talked about doing it to have a good look around some rocky marks.............

never done it myself or would be bothered but im sure that it would give you an idea as to the potential of a place

Friend off mine is a Pro Diver and does not fish ...always sayin to me if only fishermen would learn to dive 'least they would know where the fish are and stop thrown leads miles in the wrong direction!....

i go snorkeling along a strech of coast i know quite well..its helped me find wrasse,mullet and occasionally bass.
now i can find wrasse in one spot everytime,mullet too, but the bass are infrequent and seem to patrol rather then hang in one spot.
it helps you decide what tactic to use when fishing and what areas for each species.
a few tips.. dont go alone..2hours is plenty..visibility can be a problem..check your position against the shoreline now and then...go slow and dont splash alot.
even if i didnt fish snorkeling is a fantastic hobby,the sights you see are amazing.
i've seen schools of triggers,was completely surrounded by sandells,salmon,dogfish,congers and even the plant life is spectacular:)

I used to do it every year on holidays... around 5 hours a day for a whole month. Never got a tan on my front

I had a few harpoon guns too, caught my dinner most nights and I've been bitten my a moray eel twice. But it's amazing the stuff you see.

Very good for spotting fish habitat.... also very good in known area's for picking up tackle and weight

But you need about 3/4 days of wind under 10mph and swell under 1m to get good vis and when its good it can reach over 15m
