mag or no mag?
stupid question but what advantage would a mag real have over a non mag real for beach fishing? ie. Abu7000i versus abu 6500 premium mag elite etc .

Re: mag or no mag?
more control over the spool speed making the reel more usable in all conditions and much better braking if combined with brake blocks for learning at first then as confidence improves just magnetic controll will be all you,ll need
they also sell quicker second hand if you decide its not for you ,why not look for a second hand one then you wont get screwed if you dont like em when you sell it on???

Re: mag or no mag?
Thank's for the reply roger , to be honest I'd be slow to go for second hand reel's as I got caught out before . To be honest the price difference doesn't seem to be that great between new and second hand. I'm tempted to go for slosh over mag , everyone says their fantastic but I'm still wonderin bout the magsroger de dodger wrote:more control over the spool speed making the reel more usable in all conditions and much better braking if combined with brake blocks for learning at first then as confidence improves just magnetic controll will be all you,ll needthey also sell quicker second hand if you decide its not for you ,why not look for a second hand one then you wont get screwed if you dont like em when you sell it on???

Re: mag or no mag?
The slosh isn't an out and out casting reel mate. They're ok for close in heavy work but if you're fishing clean ground go for the 6500 sized reels. You'll get better distances and they're easier to cast as they're smaller. The Daiwa tournament mag is a great reel. It casts brilliantly and you can pick up mint examples for a very good price on here. I love the ABU's too though. I also have a couple of the original ABU blue yonder 6500's. These don't have mags but they're a great casting and fishing reel

Re: mag or no mag?
cheers jammy for the heads up . I'll be fishing along the west cork coastline so i want somethin that can put up with tope etc as well as rough ground but at the same time I'd like to get good distance casts ..I'm possibly being fussy but i don't want to go for a reel that casts well but can't cope with rough ground
