bait ? Fresh or frozen

#1 Post by Preston »

I have been an avid pike angler for the last ten years and a good bait has always been vital to succeed . If you get your frozen bait you have to thaw it fully naturally to get the best out of it but does the same apply for beach fishing ? I'd mainly use razor and sandeel which i usually let thaw for two hours before use . What do you suggest or am I mad to bother and just use straight?

id use razor defrosted, just cos it breaks too easy when still a bit frozen.
with the sandeel keep them frozen for as long as possible. put them into a thermos flask and just take them out as you need them. they will defrost enough to be put the hook if you keep it in your fist for a minute or 2.

With frozen bait it tend to wash out a lot quicker than fresh, it would be a lot better to mount it on the hook frozen so it lets the juices out slower. Baits like Sandeel and Crab, work much bettter still frozen when hitting the water.
