south coast - tide question

#1 Post by MackDublin »

what direction (left or right) does the tide pull along the south coast when the tide is rising and receding eg does it move from left to right on the flood and vice versa on the drop or the opposite?

Floods west to east ebbs east to west off shore but the nearer you get to harbours and bays it will flood in their direction.

A few miles off Roches Point the tide will flood towards Ballycotton in a westerly direction but the nearer you get to the mouth of the Cork harbour, Roches Point, it will start to go in a northerly direction to fill the harbour.

The same would apply for all the bays and estuaries on the southern coastline
