Bass Help

Hi all,
New to the forum although i've been lurking for a while. I need some help catching bass. I have only caught one thats maybe half a pound weight. I want to catch a real one. I only caught the small one by accident. Any tips on rigs,bait or location in Waterford would be much appreciated. Have tried Kilfarassy and actually caught a small one in Woodstown, send a pm if you do not want to give away any secret spots. Thanks for reading.

meaning u want to catch a real one u mean over 40cm? i always spin for bass with light gear and a lure and braided line, some people use a mono leader onto thier braid i prefer not to! catchin a basson a lure or soft plastic is great man a great fight with light gear!!!! there is some great videos on youtube by henry gilbey on catchin bass, have a nosey!!!!

You will supprise how close they come into shore, everyones rookie mistake is to cast 150yrs out then they are only 20~30yrds out, look for structure and gullies, anything that will hold some sort of food source, also evening and night are the best times to target them along with 1st light. Keep an eye on cortaz's post on predictable fishing it will give you info the days when it should be the best day to go for them!

i have come to the conclusion that you should not target bass, as ya could be waiting a while, (more so up here in the north) but i have said in previous posts, just go out and enjoy your fishing, and when ya do catch one, take it as a bonus. . .

as for where to catch them, many people have different views on this. a simple chuck/lob into the water is enough. you dont need to be putting your bait out at distance, bass can be caught in 18" of water. i know of a guy who waded out so far, then cast his rod. when he turned to come back to shore, he seen the bass running along the back of the waves. . . .he had waded out past them

up here in the north, its usually a good idea to be fishing a surf beach, maybe the same applies in your neck of the woods. . .

sand eels and rag worm have both worked for me

thats my view too charlie - if i want a bass i go tiddler fishing, in close with light rigs with the only difference being BIG HOOKS AND BIG BAITS..
BUT - if i can sea clear holding areas i will target them too ie gullies and other structures, but up north its more difficult finding fish so best to know the marks at low tide to find these areas.
for rigs i like to be keeping them as clutter free and invisible as possible and i prefer no more than a 4oz lead.

Any know for good mark for Bass in East Galway ??
