Whys is braid prone to knotting ?

#1 Post by flynnboy »

Hi

Does anyone know why Braid is prone to sudden awful knotting ? This has happened to me on numerous occasions now. For example there I was the other day casting away nicely with no hint of a problem when suddenly mid-cast - bang.... instead of one line coming from my spool I had 3 lines coming off it and an awful mess ensued with the loss of about 30 yds !

Because I know only too well now this is prone to happen now and then I always close the bail arm manually and every cast I check that there is no looping at the beginning and end of a cast, but yet, no matter what every now and then an awful mess happens  :( :? :?:

Use less braid on the spool. You should never fill the spool with braid. Leave a few mm when you put it on.

The quality of cheap spools of braid is not good and wind knots will happen all the time, I use 18lb powerpro now on a 4000 rarenium and never have any problems, I was using Berkley whiplash before, its good but not as good as powerpro.

Could it be down to line lay? What kinda reel are you using mate? I used to use a crappy Leeda reel and when I put braid on it I had similar problems. Wind knots, crack offs, birds gaffs etc... Bought a Shimano Aerlex 7000 and absolutley no issues in over a year.
