I went on a 3 day camping and fishing trip on a mark that produces loads of Bass. Four us arrived on our beach mark 2 hours before high tide. Loads of Bass on second surf huge ones... roughly at least 5 lbs each... they could almost literally hit your let once the wave breaks... I could estimate like hundreds of them... I personally used a popper, a sammy shallow diver, maria chase and on another rod peeler carbs on one hook and rag worm on the other...
This has been the case for the whole 3 days on that mark and every time we go there on that tide time loads of Bass but no take, we hit blank!!!
What have we done incorrectly?
Other marks we went through did blank on Bass but we got good hits on big Pollock... though they are not our target for this trip and all were returned safely after getting hooked.
Please help me understand.
By the way aside from the 4 of us, there is one lad fishing that caught one 4lb bass at the end of the beach...

Re: What have I done incorrectly?
Mullet do frequent beaches also . Maybe the Bass weren't feeding or they could have been preoccupied with the schools of bait fish and your lures were a bit too large for them ! Just my 2 cents worth !

Re: What have I done incorrectly?
I saw this before, at first I thought they were mullet but then they were right beside the rock i was on and I could see they were bass, try a soft plastic, slug-go or x-layer or any good imitation sandeel will do the job, sometimes they just like it right in front of them where they don't use up alot of energy chasing lures, fish it slow, or as Roger says a sandeel
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office!

Re: What have I done incorrectly?
probably did not have the correct bait/ lure. alternatively there might have been predators around and they were not feeding.

Re: What have I done incorrectly?
Hi,
they were for sure not bass. Bass are usually not in huge groups and not during daylight. They are predators, but pretty shy as well. Have seen on Garretstown beach, lads was fishing with net for sandeel, and had tons of mullet in the net as well. If they were bass, you would catch at least 1 in three days.
Cheers,
Zoltan
