pier fishing spots for novice & son

#1 Post by Ahab3 »

Hi lads,

Any tips on pier fishing in Waterford/North Cork. I'm new to this game and come Aldi equipped! My 9 year old is mad keen on fishing. Am I right in thinking we've a good bet for catching mackerel using spinners/3 flies & 2oz weight with the incoming tide?

I bring my two small lads to Ballycotton main pier. The wall there is high up but can be safe for kids. Monkstown has a small pier/ or from wall of carpark which we caught a few mac's from aswell. During august we would go to the park in youghal and fish from the wall/railings.

As you said, spinners or 3-4 hook feathers on 10lb line with a 2oz weight is perfect.

Is Ardmore or Dunmore East worth a try?
