This mussel boats have destroyed the fishing in greystones ,they tear up the sea bed leaving it like a lunar landscape ,we
used to have some of the best boat and shore fishing in ireland and now its totally baron

Re: mussel boats dreding
Lads, ye should come down to carlingford lough between carlingford and warrenpoint, every day 2-3 boats dredging,
the fishing is non exsistent and its a beautiful shoreline and should be an angling paradise. But, the damage will be done before anyone does anything about it. Hope it dosnt effect courtown, spent a week there in march..
Good things come to those who bait.

Re: mussel boats dreding
Belfast lough is exactly the same lads. The fishing here was fantastic years ago. We even still have a couple of Irish record fish from the lough but it's been destroyed. No thornies or spurs left that i've heard of and the mussell dredgers are killing any small fish that they scoop up. They've been seen dumping them back in.
You can bet your ass that if anglers left a mess like like the mess those boats leave we wouldn't be allowed to continue with our sport for very long.

Re: mussel boats dreding
+We have the same problem in Lough Foyle,if you ask about the damage
being done no body wants to know.
The usual reply is they are only
taking mussels no talk about the damage to the sea beds,
the feeding for sea fish wild life etc.
The same can be said about the clam boats operating out of Portrush
,
the once famous Causeway Coast is being ploughed into oblivion.
The people in charge of our fisheries need to wake, up alas it is to late.
Surley the Loughs agency who are responsible for Foyle and Carlingford Loughs
need to take action now

Re: mussel boats dreding
We have it here in Balbriggan aswell, feckin razor boats no more than fifty yards from the rocks ploughing the crap out of the seabed surely theres a law on how close they can fish to the shore?
