Why not club together to buy the moulds and lead yourselves? Casting your own weights is great craic.

I can see your point but I think its safer to let it to the professionals, they will have all the gear necessary already.Tanglerat wrote:Why not club together to buy the moulds and lead yourselves? Casting your own weights is great craic.

Cheers but it would be 4,5,6 &7 oz grip leads we would be after, Namix/DCA or the new UK Hooks moulds.Cluais wrote:Hi Mate I sell cannon balls lead weights if any good

Too much hassle and a health hazzard. I would prefer to leave it to someone who makes some kind of a living out of it.eoghanb wrote:Professionals? ,the only gear u need lead ,a little pot,and a camping stove, the moulds ,and bike spokes work grand and dont rust, use a welding glove or thick cloth wrapped around ur hand when pouring,iv made my own leads for years and ull save a fortune ,all u have to do is find a willing roofer or electrician and ull have all the lead ye need
Anyone making leads should be doing so with the aid of a powerful extractor fan.

The grippers are costly especially when you hit a phase of losing them. As far as I know you can buy the moulds for them, We make the ordinary torpedo weights at home using a bucket of sand, push an already made weight down through the sand in two or three different places in the bucket, put your wire in next and then pour your lead. You need to move fast as its sets in about 2 seconds.
The finest gift you can give a fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"
