#1 Post by steol5589 »

going to fish one of the wicklow beaches this wednesday night, high tide is at about 1 in the morning, so wil prob fish from about 10 until 3. any reccomendations on which beach to fish. i would be after smooth hounds, flats and bass, so which ever wicklow beach u think is best for these let me know. also what worm baits you'd use.il bring my usual mack and crab and the either lug or rag.what ever you think.

Ennereily is the beach i would fish there is always a few fish knocking around at night, bait wise if i had to pick between lug or rag i would go rag, i find rag gets the percentage of takes down that direction

I second that, Ennereilly is worth a shot - always seems to throw up some flatties & doggies and there's a good possibility of Bass and Smuts too. So far the smuts have been small, just don't forget to put back any Bass ! Usually use lug but rag just as good......

If specifically hunting hounds then rag is your next best friend to peeler crab.

Prob still a wee bit too early for the wicklow beaches to produce hounds but you never know :!:

If your dublin based, try one of the north dublin beaches such as donabate, portmarnock etc - I'd say you've a better chance of smuts - pm me if you want a bit of help

Late may/june+ should see the wicklow/nth wexford beaches giving better catches of hounds, usually its july onwards but the warm spring will see this accelerated by a few weeks I'd say.

Wherever you fish, post a report so we know how you got on.

for big mother hounds i find a whole peeler with a vampire rag impaled through the fangs and lashed on with the crab gives that extra bit of pulling power

Just in from a session at Ennereilly. Only one other lad fishing there tonight. No luck with any smoothhounds or anything else for that matter. Three or Four small flatties between us.
Good luck on Wednesday though.
