Crimps or Knots
Just wondering what you think have more of a secure hold for making your own rigs, crimps or knots. Personally ive never had a problem with a knot slipping but its only now im moving onto bigger fish. Any input appreciated and all opinions welcome.

Re: Crimps or Knots
I would say crimps would be the way to go for strenght, if your tying lighter snood line onto the mainline of a rig that is. If you don't have a proper crimp pliers just make sure you don't just flatten the crimp on one side with an ordinary pliers, work around the crimp squeezing bit by bit as you go around, if you use stop knots with lighter line on heavier line they tend to slip under weight, or maybe i'm just not using the best stop knot
but if your using heavier line directly to the hook you could probably get away with knots I reckon.

Re: Crimps or Knots
Powergum stop knots for me.
I used to use crimps, for speed and ease of use. Then 2 years ago I lost a very large bass, easily my biggest ever, when my trace broke at the crimp jsut as I was about to land the fish. I was absolutely gutted, and I never, ever want to feel that sick feeling again.
So now it's Powergum stop knots - I use 20lb gum and never have any problem with them slipping

Re: Crimps or Knots
I use crimps and silicon tubing. Placing a knot on a shock weakens it and is dangerous even if it is 60lb line if your power casting. For crimps use a crimping tool which stops over crimping and line damage. On clip down rigs I use silicon tube stop knot to hold the lead side of the swivel bead in place and a crimp at the mainline side. This allows for snood adjustment due to line stretch or re-snooding. It also can bring the snood closer to the lead when bringing in a big fish making it easier. It also often dislodges a rig that is caught at the hook to a snag when the silicon slips under pressure.
I do use knots on my scratching rigs to hold 4 way beads but these are lobbed.

Re: Crimps or Knots
use soft crimps and leave them adjustable a big fish will pull the snood down as far as the lead making it less likely to snag, put the crimp on and slide it slowly along the trace body and sqeeze it till its gripping but not rock solid
this also makes cascade rigs easy to adjust as the rig body stretches over the first few casts power gum would be good on light rig body under 30lb as crimps can weaken lighter lines more easily
