Shore conger eel

I know of a mark where conger has been caught from a boat which is not too far from shore ( within casting distance) so was gonna give it a shot from shore. Has anyone advice on a rig for conger from the shore bearing in mind the bottom is very rough around this area.also if i have any chance of landing a conger from the shore. any advice or people with experience fishing conger from shore would be great.

you shouldnt really need to cast to catch shore congers......maybe where you are casting from may hold congers below you,,,,,if you drop baits off a harbour or a rocks edge there is nearly a certain chance that you will land a conger,,,,,,they hide in holes anywhere is is a space and our seas are full of them...there are rigs that you can buy for a few quid that will have steel trace to help prevent him from cutting it with his teeth,,,,,a mackerel fillet or half a full mackerel will be all the bait u need,,,when he takes he probably will take all back into his hole so best of luck in trying to get him out,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,when unhookking just be aware and maybe throw a towel over him to stop him slipping through your hands.........................they are probably one of the easiset to catch and you will increase your chances greatly at night........best of luck

I caught a couple with around 20lb and 30lb size last Sunday night on shore with 2 little strap congers and one silver eel.

I used my Tope trace for it and both were caught on fresh mackerel heads and partly the guts around it using bait elastic. You have to be quick in detecting the bite because we know they tend to go into their holes. I have to wait almost 45 minutes to start pumping out one of them after I missed the bite and the conger managed to get under.

Ya usually you drop bait down for congers but its worth a go for sure. If you put the bait out near the rocks where they are why wouldn't they bite. A Pulley rig would be the best as the weight goes above the fish on the retrieve so you have a great chance of landing him and not getting snagged on the way in. A steel trace or heavy braid would be best so they don't cut your trace with their teeth. You can make your own pulley rigs there's plenty info on the net to show you if you don't already know how or else ask in your local fishing shop for the rigs. I would carry a good few as at times no matter what rig you use it will get snagged and that's just the joys of fishing
