Ideas in Waterford for Smoothounds
Well lads, im mad to bust out the new rods for something as big as i can, smooth hounds and rays seem to be best things to test a new rod with so if anyone can point me in some direction in Waterford that they might show up, and baits, rigs if possible? If there the same rigs as thornbacks then just tell me that. Thanks in advance

Crab is the top Smoothie bait not cast too far either although i saw one caught on lug worn last yr. Tramore beach, idealy with a moderate surf there has been a few showing up the past few years I think it was July they started showing last year. Hope you get a few , might see you there myself.

I'v had hounds from both the east and west end of Tramore and I'v seen them caught in between, but never in the big numbers that you'd see up the east coast like Rosslaire / courttown etc but still its nice to see even those few! I'd imagine they would have a go at the channel in the Saleens cos the place is full of crab for them to munch.......
On the ray scene (Painted ) mostly from the shore I usually use a 1up1down rig with long snoods(up to 3ft) to 3/0's ,but a pulley rig will also work fine and sandeel / launce , mackeral and I'v heard of squid and razor being good for them also. I saw 2 carcases of thornback's last week washed on on the HW mark way down the beach in Tramore don't know if they came from a net r what but i hear Thornies fall to Peeler there, might give them a lash next wk on LW in the dark probably still a bit early for Tramore but you won't know until you try
