Re: 1st time sea fishing in ireland
Hi thunderchild, welcome to SAI.
That's not my area so I can't offer any advice. But it might help those who can if you let them know how experienced you are at sea angling, what kind of tackle/rigs/baits you know best.

come on lads, we keep banging on about the whole tourism side of angling and how Ireland needs this kind of money coming in, a fella asks about a spot he is going to visit and is going to spend his hard earned money in the local area and he gets one reply with info

Re: 1st time sea fishing in ireland
sandeel bay is a good spot for plugging for bass but at that time of the year the beach will be full of swimmers so id suggest an early start. best fished from the bottom of the tide up. theres also flats and the odd ray but a evening session into darkness would be best. sandeel and rag would be the best baits. hookhead fishes well for pollock, wrasse, dogs, the odd ray and some big rockling. crab, rag sandeel and mackeral are the best baits. the wrasse are literally under your feet and will be taken on rag with crab taking the bigger fish. ive seen 4lb plus wrasse taken here. a 60 yard plus cast will put you onto clean ground were dogs and the odd ray will be taken. a sandeel on a light spinning rod is a great way to fish for the pollock. im not to familiar with bait collecting in that area but nationwide baits offer excellent bait and their address can be found on this site. hope this helps and tight lines.
