swell predictions

#1 Post by Mikesound »

Hi everyone
I haven't posted much before as I've been reading up on everything in the forums, its like fishing college on here, great for a newbie like me!
but now I have a question.....
The last few times I've been out I've been sent home by big swells and weed.
Sound familiar? I have used Easytide.co.uk to check tide times from a recommendation on this forum also Cortaz' solumnar predictions and they're feckin great but does anyone use any of the surfer sites for swell predictions. I live about an hour from the sea so it is valuable info for me if you can trust the source. The sites I'm looking at are Magicseaweed site and app and (being from Clare) Lahinch surf Shops webcam and weather app.
Am I wasting my time or wha? Advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Mike

Try the marine institute weather data buoys, there has been a big swell the last few weeks.

I find magic seaweed ok but not perfect, try and read weather systems, usually there will be a swell running for a couple of days before and after any storm.

I can see your dificulty especially at this time of year, maybe you should look at finding a sheltered mark as back up.

magicseaweed is decent alright, ww.askmoby.com isnt too bad either.. when it asks for your activity put in surfing and not fishing..
it gives a decent prediction of wave height, swell, wind and weather, have found it to be pretty accurate.
some of the swells that have been along the Clare coast the last 2months were simply scary
