Tried the estuary channel (just opposite car pak to Oscar taylors) a few months back trying to scratch out a few flounder but no joy that night. It was a calm enough evening after a few stormy days and the weed was just piling down the channel so maybe best fished after a prolonged period of calm weather or on the ebb ? Caught a truly breathtaking amount of crabs so should be good for picking a few peelers. I'll definitely be giving it a go with the bait again though and it would be interesting to see what the lures/spinners might throw up there. Best of luck with it.
It ain't easy but it sure is simple!

Bass and sea trout in the estuary on lures.

If bait fishing, its best to fish right at the mouth of the estuary, an hour or so of the falling tide and an hour or so of the filling tide. Best with a bit of surf up, you can target bass and flounder.

The beach can fill quite quickly around there so just keep your wits about you.

Bait fished into the channel of the estuary before but the crabs destroyed the baits in minutes.

The estuary above the railway line is full or mullet. I've heard of Schoolie Bass being caught in the pool just below the tracks.
