Circle Hooks
I Have been thinking about giving circle hooks a try just to experiment with and to see if they improve my catch rate but i dont hear much mention of them! I understand due to the wide usage of worm baits here that maybe there are not many anglers using them! They look ideal for boat angling but what about from shore? Can anyone tell me of their experiences using them and are they worth a try? Thanks

Re: Circle Hooks
I like them for bait fishing for Bass, if there's the chance of my attention wandering away for the rod.

Re: Circle Hooks
i used them once on "de wall" in monkstown. i alternated between 4/0 aberdeens and 3/0 circles every 2nd cast. they didnt seem to be a huge difference with lip hooking between the different hooks. i had lip hooked and deep hooked from both.
i found them very good for baiting up with crab but not so good with worms or razor.

Re: Circle Hooks
i had used a size 2 semi circle pattern for flatties once because i went through a period of deeply hooking flatties - it did improve the lip hook ups compared to normal patterns but a bait needle was a must for worm baits. i've now assigned them to top hooks on pennel rigs to present a long worm on.
i tried some size 4/o's for thornies but in all honesty i couldnt see any benifit for that species. i'm sure that they have there applications though is fish that turn and run once they have the bait.

Re: Circle Hooks
for all my fishing, they can be a bit awkward when using worm baits but this is easily sorted with the use of a baiting needle. sending away for a load more so i will have them in all sizes that i would use.weedave wrote:fishermannum1 wrote:i've been using them for a few years now and love them, cant fault them at all...

the baiting needle is a must for worm baits, interesting how some people love them and some cant be doing with them. i'll maybe give them another shot
would you recommend any brand or are they much the same?
