spurdog advice

#1 Post by markyb »

Hows things lads looking for a bit of advice on any areas you have caught spurs off the shore,Seen them caught, heard rumors of them caught in a particular spot or just slightly offshore from a boat :) ,I understand that lads dont like telling people certain marks that they fish that throw up a rare fish these days as spurdog off the shore,i am looking to target them from anywhere around the coast and to be honest i dont have the funds to fish and travel the width and breadth of the country so just looking for a bit of advice on any marks to give me a better chance of catching,i know of a mark or two in Wicklow+Wexford but wondering if lads have any good advice on if there is any marks in Carlingford,Galway bay,Bantry bay or the mouth of the shannon.any pms welcome and kept a secret if need be

As I said summer time to late Autumn i.e. May-Oct is when they've showed up, that's not to say they're not there earlier in year. The comps are always held in daylight for safety reasons... several were caught last year and this year up to 8/9lbs there was also a small Tope landed by the winner of this years Lisdoonvarna Fanore SAC International Week - Mike Curtin. There were over a dozen different species landed including, Conger to over 30lbs, Thornback Ray, Spurdogs, Tope, Huss... quite a few guys were bitten off also.

It'd be well worth a trip over to fish The International Week good fishing plus good atmosphere and craic during the week also... contact James Linnane in Lisdoonvarna Fanore SAC for details.
