vingler-sandeel
just wondering has anyone ever heard of a vingler or indeed ever used one,,its a kind of a home made device for catching sandeel....they used to use them long-go..would really like to get a look at one & advice on using one if possible

no idea but id love to find out. there was a bloke on screaming reels before catching them in wexford using a knife and his fingers.

must see can i find that episode of that 'screeming reels' sum where & get a few pointers off it.....have heard you can make them out of an old long knife alright !!!

best used at the low water mark, put the vingler in at an angle and draw it towards your other hand, you have to be quick on grabbing the eels as they will disappear very fast.
one word of warning, wear a good glove for grabbing them in case you grab hold of a weaver fish

I always make a fig. eight with the vingler when you feel some thing catch the blade and slide it up hold with your finger and thumb sand eel will be held in the hook if done right you have all the time in the world can be used in knee deep water .
