Berley/Burley Bag

#1 Post by chenz116 »

A mate of mine who is over in oz has been telling me recently that over there everyone uses berley/burley bags.

Ive never heard of them until now and ive never seen anyone using one on the beaches.

Just wondering if anyone had used one before

I've used them off piers but if you were to use them off the beach i'm guessing you'd just go down on low tide. Anchor your bag where you want to fish and mark the position higher up the tide mark so you don't cast out and snag the bag. Wait for the tide to rise and the ingredients in your bag will start to seep out and spread a nice big scent trail. Also you should have a lenght of rope long attached to the bag long enough to reach the high tide mark on the beach so you can retreave it when leaving the spot and not litter the beach.

it brought alot of small wrasse in close to the pier i was fishing off. Also the ground under us was thick with dogfish. Don't know if they're there anyway or weather the contents of the bag was drawing them in. It definitely does attract fish though.
