Abu 6500

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Abu 6500

#1 Post by anthony byrne »

Right lads I'm really lost looking at the Abu collection and there is so many different models. Is the Abu 6500 c power handle a good multiplier to begin with and what's a mag ? Would it go well with a Shakespeare salt beachcaster.

Mag means the reel has magnetic braking, as well as the normal centrifugal braking. Basicaly there are magnets that can be moved nearer or further away from the spool depending on how fast you want the spool to turn. This means you can set the reel to run slow amd with a click of the knob you can make the reel run quicker should you need to, this makes it easy to control and is the best kind of reel to start with. Id say your better going with a mag reel might cost a bit more but will be easier to master.
