Ballycotton
Just wondering was anybody down on ballycotton pier recently and is it still very busy with mack bashers and the likes. I was hoping to take my little cousins down there to float fish for a few small coalies and whatever bits and pieces might be hanging around. Nice easy mark with no problems with access but i wouldn't like to expose kids to the kind of carry on that takes place during the busy days down there. Thanks.

Re: Ballycotton
havent fished there in about a year but was told that knockadoon pier can throw up a few fish to floats at high water. its only about 3 foot wide tho so if the kids are very young it might not be suitable

Cheers red. I'll keep it in mind. I'll have a scout around and check out the marks with one of my buddies before i bring the kids out.

Re: Ballycotton
Hi Evan,
Another one to consider is the little pier on the Waterford side of Youghal Bridge. I fished it around this time last year for mack (maybe a bit later), it was thick with 6oz coalies, was thinking would have been fun for youngsters. No big crowd around either. It's a bit further away I know....

Yes, I've been there when its been choppy and not very suitable. When its calm its not bad, only problem I had with is that there is no rail like you have in ballycotton so weary of the small fellas. Will have them in their lifejackets next time we go there.red wrote:havent fished there in about a year but was told that knockadoon pier can throw up a few fish to floats at high water. its only about 3 foot wide tho so if the kids are very young it might not be suitable

Re: Ballycotton
I had a cast down there on sunday and caught f all. Fished during the day tho so i'll try a session into dark there some day. There was about 20 thornies washed up on the sand there but i'm guessing that was dumped by a trawler.red wrote:havent fished there in about a year but was told that knockadoon pier can throw up a few fish to floats at high water. its only about 3 foot wide tho so if the kids are very young it might not be suitable
Also tried ballycotton earlier in the day and there was leads and spinners flying everywhere and bouncing off cars and a few crack offs too from people not using shock leader. Not a nice place to be and definitely not safe for kids or adults for that matter.
