Re: mussels
ive never found mussels any good from the beach but have heard of lads sayin they got seatrout and bass on them.i think there deadly for rougher ground.especially for cod or ling.best used in a cocktail.i find if u open the body of the squid so u have now wats like a bag.well stuff that with mussels and pierce it then so the scent of the mussels get out.whip him on to ur hook and now u have a deadly bait for cod

Re: mussels
Hi,
I hadn't use mussel much in the past but on an east coast boat trip last saturday I used some frozen mussel as bait on a string of muppets. It was very quiet until I started using it but as soon as I put it on I started picking up coaly and cod. Decent size too. I didn't make a mussel sausage, I just lightly hooked each one and dropped them down.
Good luck

Re: mussels
From time to time I par-boil mussels for a few seconds and tie them on the hooks with elastic thread. The hooks are already on snoods which I can detach from booms on the main line. I then put a dozen or so of these in the freezer (snoods + baited hooks) and leave them until I need them. They release their scent while they are thawing out in the water and I find them very effective for BIG flounder.
