Speci Heaven , Screeming reels
People:Siert, myself
Duration:9 hours
Tide:ebb to flood
Weather:great , a little rain pm
Bait:mack, crab, rag ,whites
Rigs:spreader bars, sabikis, animal rigs
Results:Speci Dab 1.55lbs , Speci Plaice 4.14lbs, Speci LSD 3.75lbs
Report:
Well, the day started as a hunt for ray and huss, but rather turned out a flatty marathon, it was a cracking days fishing to say the least, we intially headed out to new ground near the smiths, and i soon had the first speci LSD onboard, much to the annoyance of siert he could not get one over the magic mark, plenty on 3lbs though.
Still no ray , so a move was on order and we shifted to an inshore mark, where we decided to drift, we were picking up plenty of grey gurnard, but still no ray.
We then moved to an area east of trabolgan and again started to try for the thornies, still no joy but i picked up a nice plaice, then followed by second speci of the day, a nice Dab. We started to pick up some more nice plaice around the 2-3lb mark, and decided to continue fishing for the flats, seirt sent down his match bait special, and just as i said it was time to move, he said, " hang on whilst i just bring in this speci plaice,", when i looked round, his 30lb class rod was bent over, and i could see long powerful runs, i grabed the net and in went a lovely big plaice, weighed onshore it tipped the scales at 4.15lbs, seirt was a happy camper, as were we both with three speci's onboard !!
We then decided to move back to the harbour, to try again for the ray and huss, but as the flood started and still no joy we called it a day.
These days come very rarely and boy did we enjoy it.
regards

Re: Speci Heaven , Screeming reels
Wonderful to see two specimen flatfish in this day and age. Cork harbour area always produced specimens to the likes of Christy Lane.
Fished a small boat off the north Wicklow coastline last Tuesday, the mussel banks there were famous for producing big plaice, sadly thirty years of government sanctioned mussel dredging has created a featureless desert, no mussel banks no plaice, in fact no fish.
Well done again, where there's life there's hope, great catch.
