Any good fishing near Banna Strand - Tralee Bay?

#1 Post by John D »

Hi everyone.

I'm leaving Dublin this Saturday 31st July 2010 for a week long family holiday.

The priority of the trip will be trying to make sure my 2 year old daughter has as much fun as possible.

However I'd also like to get a bit of fishing in.

We're staying in the Banna Beach resort so any good marks near here would be greatly appreciated (or a couple of kilometres either side).

My priority would be a bass or two, either a good number of small to medium sized ones or a solitary giant :D

After this I'd like to know if there is anywhere that can offer a good mixed bag during a bait session, a session where I don't know what's going to come back in on the end of my line.

After this an accessible and safe mark for wrasse/pollock float fishing to show my daughter a few fish.

And last but not least a mark that yields decent pollock on spinners please.

Tight lines,
John D.

John - Ive never heard great reports from Banna - but if you drive south a little bit and park near the golf course there's good fishing to be had at the mouth of Barrow harbour. If you can find Póll Ghorm there too we used to fish there for turbot on a flooding tide with sandeels at dusk and had some good sport.
Good luck,

hi
the black rock is just up the beach from you
come out unto the beach and turn right you will see a rock in the distance fish to the right of it on a rising tide with lugs and you should be in with a chance there is a larger island nearby try spinning off the southern side of it you might hit some fish. all on rising tide.

when you come out unto the beach turn left and walk to the end of the sand spit poll gorum is at the end of that never really caught anything there bar flounder
you can drive close by there if you dont like the walk.

there are strong currents at that first mark so don't let the kids go swimming there if you bring them with you.

I nearly forgot try fenit pier at night if it stays calm

Also if i were you i would try the beach itself with a spinner there surely have to be bass somewhere along it.
