Hey folks.
Probably jumpin the gun by a mile here but one or two fishin buddies have said that this could be a small huss. Didnt think of it at the time but remember thinkin it was much heavier than the usual dogs ive been catching, the head was a lot bigger and I couldnt bend its tail back to the head like you hold the dogs. Teeth were bigger too. On reading up on the huss I never checked the nostrils.
Any opinions welcomed. Would be nice to stick one on the species list. I know Greystones has been known to throw up the odd huss so thats why im curious. Have never seen a huss too so havnt a clue what they look like.
Thanks,
Jayball.

Re: Fish ID?
Haha. Im not sure what youd use to be honest. I bought an 8/0 conger trace and it said Huss on it too.... When you say nasal flaps. Are they like little fangs that stick out?evan699 wrote:8/0's![]()
Ye must get some bloody big huss up that way. As for the id, the nasal flaps are the easiest way to tell the difference. When i caught my first huss i was in no doubt that it was a huss. Totally different to doggies in size, proportion and the markings are different too. Much more markings on the underside of the fish than doggies.

Re: Fish ID?
The photo shows the under side of a huss's head. It's the best photo i have for id purposes. You can see the nasal flaps above the mouth, kind of like two fleshy fangs i suppose. The doggies ones are connected to the mouth but the huss's are seperate. If you catch one again and your unsure, take a photo like the one i put up and then ask for id. Hope this helps and good luck catching your huss.
