I use the Breakaway canon .Its deadly - you have confidence to grip the line firmly and release at the right time and no risk of losing the top of your finger .Result is that you cast further (which helps seeing as I have a crap cast anyway).

I bought a couple of cannons a few years ago and have used them on and off for different lines, i find them great for braid especially when your hands are soft from being wet all the time.
I have used them for power casting for the first time the other day with great results and the line release from the cannon seems to be a lot smoother than with your finger, and with that you get less line violence on the initial release and less chance of a crack off.
They take a bit of getting used too but persevere and you'll be rewarded.
Hope this helps Dan.
