I've a quick question regarding tying braid to mono shock leader which I haven't been able to sort.
I have tried various knots tied as neatly as possible and yet I still have problems on casting with the linking knot catching on the last eye on the tip of the rod. Am I better off with a really short shock leader to prevent the problem or does this defeat the purpose altogether or simply going without altogether as I've started doing lately and attaching a clip to my braid instead.
Any advise / opinions?
By the way I'm tying 15lb braid to 20lb mono.

Re: Braid & Shock Leaders
15lb braid to 20lb mono sounds like a lure set up which if is the case go with a way shorter leader that only reaches the tip guide when casting and if it is for bait fishing up the breaking strain of the braid (there would be minimal difference in braid diameter) to say 30lb-40lb and fish your trace directly off the braid ......had the same problem myself and thats what solved it
Species....good film.....I'll get my coat

Re: Braid & Shock Leaders
I fish the braid straight thru for both lure and bait. For bait I use 30lb BS main line with an 80lb braid shockleader, for lures just 15 or 20lb braid all the way.
Never quite understood the need for a mono shockleader with lures. If its supposed to be a stretchy shock absorber for the braid, thats the job of the rod and reel drag surely. I've had no problems with the braid breaking off from abrasion, I just keep an eye on it and take a few feet off once in a while.

Yes the mono is mainly for abbrasion reasons and I think its harder for the fish to see mono
I have started using flurocarbon lately

Thanks for all the advice
Its a lure setup alright, think I'll give the very short leader a go for a while to see how that works.
Cheers
