i think you will have to get screaming/martyn to have a look at it tony, i dont think the golden mark on it's cheeks are back far enough to be a golden :?

I think its to do with the gold mark by the gill covers sometimes grey mullet have a gold tinge but arent golden greys........but more other people can probably give you more info.

I have to agree with John on this one Tony....
The gold spot looks too close to the eye for my liking and the top lip looks very thick too..

Check it out with the cork boat lads,Jim,Screeming and Pat etc. They would know more than me..

I'm tending to think its a thick lipped grey mullet, its upper lip seems to be more than half diameter of eye and the golden spot isn't as defined as it would be on a golden grey or set further back where a golden grey have the spot.

Yes I would think the pec fin is quite long on a GG. In larger GG the yellow spot can be quite faint so I would not depend on this one.
In the fish book the "jugular interspace is mentioned:

I have highlighted the interspace in the attached picture. In Tony's picture it looks straight (could be the picture)

If I was asked to call - thicklipped :?
