a quick question???

#1 Post by pjsoma »

hi everyone.. just wondering about how muc line to put on the spool.. some say to fill it up to the max n it allows for greater casting but when recently spinning i kept gettin tangles in my line while casting and was told that i had too much line on my spool.. now i dont know what to think... has anyone got a definitive answer on what way it shud be??? cheers

overfilling a reel can lead to tangles. the action of the spinner can cause line twist too. a good quality reel will reduces line twist but you still need a swivel above the lure. leaving the line a few millimetres down from the spool lip should minimise it. its a compremise but less tangles is more time fishing :)

Plus, if you're using mono, beware of it's tendency to keep it's memory. It's coming off a spool to go onto your reel and will probably have coils "memorised" (for want of a better word). So load your reel with the coils bedding in, not springing out. Not an issue with braid, it's limper and doesn't retain it's memory.

never knew this. myself and a mate have the same line but his jumps off the reel at every cast. must let him know its not on right.

hi all

heres a video on how to load mono on to a fixed spool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDYquiQK ... re=related
also if ur using light lures the line might not go back on the reel under enought tension which can cause extra loops of line to jump over the lip when casting the way i combat this is to cast a heavier lure every so often just to bed the line back down works for me anyway hope this helps.
