Currabinny Pier, Crosshaven

Was supposed to be going out boat fishing into Cork Harbour on Sunday. Had a bucket full of crab but unfortunately got called off due to mate being ill so decided to head down to the pier to use the bait I had as I didnt have the time to travel to any decent marks and just wanted a bit of light fishing.

Setup first cast got a bite straight off, pulled in a small flounder....plonked it back out no more than 15/20 yards and started to setup my other rod.

No sooner was a I preparing my second rod a small private boat came close to the pier and took my line....along with the rod straight into the water.

I was shouting at the boat to try and get its attention only for one of the fellas to show me the middle finger....Couldnt believe it.

Somehow my zippy bass rod was still floating along with my 7ht....after a half a dozen attempts I managed to snag my rod...no doubt the reel is fooked. Just thought Id warn anyone thinking of fishing there to keep a eye....I wouldnt mind if I had cast out a fair distance but I was literally just infront of the pier.

Shocking altogether.....youd like to think the two lads who seemed to enjoy what they had done werent locals.

A hour later a local was dropped off by boat who had been out in the harbour and was chatting for a while, gave me a few tips on good spots around the pier...finshed off with 4 codling and a flattie so I left happy.

u were lucky u got it back.still thou a lesson learne./you wudnt mind if it was a lidl rod and reel but a ziplex and a 7ht top of da range .glad u got some fish to brighten up your day.well done

Same happened to my mate in galway firday night, some of them small boat owners are just plain w****rs. I first thought they were just ignorant, but if they are sticking the fingers up at you like that, your safe in the knowledge they take great pleasure in acting the b***ocks Next time have a 7oz gripper ready on another rod and aim it right at em.

Glad to hear you got your gear back though, reel should be ok if you give it a good rinse and oil.

Gonna take the reel apart....hopefully be okay.

Thats dog rough all right - its what happens when baboons get their paws on money.

There's just as bad on the shore side at times tho - I've had cans, rubbish and fish offal chucked down into the boat when manoeuvering back into Helvick Harbour while the summer mack slaughterers were manning the ramparts. The baboons are everywhere these days - as Tony Soprano used to say, whatchagonnado?

Agree that the reel will be fine after a good clean out etc.

hard luck lee but at least you got them back. the Zippy bass is a crackin rod, id probably cry if i lost my one. did ya get the reel sorted??

Yeah lovely rod.....I got it second hand a few years back, wouldnt swap it for anything. Im going to take the reel apart tonight, Id say it should be fine, just needs a clean and oil.

Was standing there watching it slowly drift away and couldnt believe it didnt sink, was very lucky, had my other rod with me so managed to snag it and reel in...best thing I caught all afternoon!

Taught me a good lesson, was too lazy to go drive a bit further down to East Cork, wont be making that mistake again.
