Portmuck - no fish
Can anyone tell me where the fish in the Portmuck area have gone. Been fishing there a few times over the last few weeks with very little joy.

If you can travel a bit I think Browns Bay beach is a good bet. Never fished Portmuck itself.

Portmuck has been on a steady decline for a while now.. Your best bet is to take a walk past the public toilets to the right of the pier and up onto the rocks a good bit over to the right. It can be great to spin or float fish and you get good pollack through the summer months.
Its rough ground also so if you are up for a bit of a scrap with tackle you get good Ballan Wrasse there from time to time.
Its poor fishing on the pier or rocks in front of the pier these days.

Fished the pier years ago with a little success. Over the rocks like magelite says is the best bet

Never had too much luck around Brown's Bay point (the rock) but have seen some fish landed.Heard today that Ferris' Bay can throw up some decent fish so might be worth a shot.
Only getting back into fishing after a few years away but heading out to hit the beaches this weekend somewhere,If anything,Brown's Bay is a likely target

Hi all, fished portmuck a few times and remember the old days before the new path was in place, always found spinning there the most fun, caught a few pollack a few weeks ago put them back, but as stated before here,.. theaugust nights just after high tide and around dusk have produced best results.
Heading to the gobbins path this week see if it improves there.

Re: Portmuck - no fish
Was fishing beyond the painted rock at Browns Bay on friday past with no luck either but there was a guy with light gear catching 2-3lb pollack not far from my first spot. The way the cookie crumbles I guess.
Hit Whitehead Promenade yesterday with rag/squid and 6 rods between 3 of us. One crab for my uncle, one that got away and a tiny Wrasse no bigger than my hand.
Have yet to fish Portmuck again but with the feedback here,I doubt it's worth.
Have been hearing good things about the Slipway at Carnfunnock and further round towards Ballygally(inc beach) Personally I've never saw anyone fish Ballygally and maybe theres a reason for that, but in current times, not many marks seem to be throwing up decent catches.
Mr Blue - Was talking to a guy in Beatties on saturday,he was using plain chrome light spinners off the Gobbins and the fish were going mad for them on the particular day.
