West cork 20/05

People: Me and seanie
Time: 18.00 - 22.15
Tide: HT about 10ish
Rigs: 2 boom pat, running ledger
Bait: Peeler, rag, lug, mack, mussel and sidewinder sandeel shads
Wether: Warm and calm, then cold and a bit choppy then very dense fog
Report:

Quick run to the tackle shop for bait before we hit the road. Came out with bait and a new rod :x . 15 euro worth of a mitchell spinning rod. On to the mark to try and christen my new bit of bargain tackle. I baited the spinning rod with a bit of lug and chucked it out. While i was baiting up my beach caster with mack for the doggies i got a few bites on my spinning rod. Struck in and landed a flounder, my first flounder ever so there was a new species and the blank saved. Carried on fishing this mark till about 9 with no more activity due to crabs and weed which was getting worse by the minute. Packed up the gear and headed to a pier about 20 mins away. Pretty rough ground at this mark and i had no rigs set up to match the surroundings so i decided to try a bit of spinning, test out the new rod with what it's meant for. I wasn't expecting much at this mark so i was nicely surprised when i got a take about 20ft out from the pier. I landed my first pollack of the year and it was also my first lure caught fish this year. About 10 mins after i hooked another pollack around the same spot. This one put up a fine fight and helped to break the new rod in. Things died down after this so we packed up shortly after. Enjoyable night with a new species and the lure fishing off to a start. Who says you need top of the range gear to hook a few fish. The pollack didn't look too bothered that i only spent 15 quid on a rod. :)
