Heading down to St John's Point Donegal this afternoon with the cub. Bit of a newbie but last year would spin or use feathers off the rocks just south of the Light House or half way down the headland in on the left where there is a small harbour.
Wondering what the is fishing like. Are there any signs of mackerel yet?
Anyway, will let you know how I get on.

Re: mack/in donegal
great day for swimming but not fishing. Was hoping for some mackerel but all I got at the Point was a couple undersized coal fish which were duly returned. The cub had better luck with a good sized solitary mackerel.
We were using feathers and a German sprat.
As we are novice anglers, any help on technique or decent fish spots in this part of Donegal would be most welcome

Heading down to the Point, son in tow this weekend, with hopefully better luck. Friend of mine suggested using ledgering (using old car spark plugs as weight!, as he said with ledgering you will lose at lot of tackle for wrasse) although I am only interested in fishing for the the table.
Will give it a go, if things are quiet.

Went down to the st John's Point on Sunday with son in tow.
Despite the weather the cub got four good sized macks and returned 6 smaller ones between two and three pm on the rocks beside the light-house.
Using 25g German sprats on sea spinning rods for casting. Lost those quite quickly, then resorted to lead and sand eel contraption bought in Decathlon in Belfast beside Ikea.
