People: me and a mate

Duration:2 Hrs 8.30pm-10.30pm

Tide: somewhere close to low when we started

Weather: fine clear and very light sw breeze

Bait: old smelly barely alive rag and some extra oily mackrel fillets

Rigs: clipped down pennel rig and a ledgered pennel rig, odd spinner and some feathers

Results: i think its a rockling of some variety???? (see pic) was a good size about 15" long and id reckon about 1lb-1.5lb very nice looking fish, took mackrel and rag cocktail. was returned alive. mate caught a load of small coallies like 6-8" long, water was teaming with them (and jelly fish). i tried for a conger, using 2 mackrel fillets. just as we were packing up the rod thumped and the butt lifted off the ground!!!. went to strike and it was stuck somewhere but it had to be a conger or some other beast. lost the rig

Report: not a bad night messed up with the tides so will be hitting it closer to high water next time. local kids were saying they were getting mackrel and pollack to spinners and traces the last few weeks!!!!

nice fish thompo , three bearded rockling ,shore rockling tend to be darker main colour with light spots . unlucky with conger ,wee tip though make sure you leave reel out of gear if using a multiplier and put your ratchet on with a marker on the line other wise you'll lose rod over side of the pier .

cheers for the advice.

im using a fixed spool reel at the mo. but i just left it so the rachet was off so it could take line if it went for it. maybe give it a go again next week. hopefully upgrading toa multiplier when pay day comes lol.
